Maori land wasn't stolen
Many media organisations portray Maori land loss as if was stolen. It wasn't.
New Zealand has 26.8m hectares of land. Maori presently own 1.5m hectares (5.6%).
How much land did Maori sell?
24.13m hectares (90%)
How much land was confiscated because of Maori rebellion (NZ Wars)?
1.2m Hectares (4.4%). Around half has been returned or compensated. Still ongoing and there have been lots of mistakes.
